People Oriented Transportation and the Return of City Life
Dr. Norman Garrick, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the
University of Connecticut
Tuesday, October 12
3:30 pm, Undergraduate Building Room 330, Greater Hartford Campus
The modernist thinking, which now pervades conventional transportation and urban planning, has been a disaster for cities like Hartford. Luckily a handful of cities in the USA and abroad not only retained their pre-automobile, human oriented approach to city planning, but they also upgraded this approach for the reality of the 21st century. In this talk Dr. Garrick will discuss various aspects of the re-discovery of people oriented design and how it is being used to re-invent streets and transit that nurtures and celebrates urban life.
