National Poetry Month

poetry

April is National Poetry Month.  To celebrate, Trecker Library is asking you to bring in a copy of a favorite poem (or two).  It can be a poem you wrote, a classic, famous, obscure, long, short…  It’s all good!    If you participated last year, you can submit a different favorite or even re-submit the same one if it is the BEST POEM EVER!  Bring in a print copy to the Trecker Library service desk or email a link to Janice.mathews@lib.uconn.edu.  Include the author, and, if you choose to, “Contributed by Your Name.”  Poems will be displayed in the exhibit cases in the hallway outside Trecker Library.  Share a favorite poem and stop by the exhibit to see what others love!

See you at the Library!

Michael R. Howser is the new Director of the Harleigh B. Trecker Library

Starting on January 5th, I joined the Harleigh B. Trecker Library staff to serve as the new director for the library. I am delighted to work with such a talented and energetic staff and look forward to meeting our faculty, staff, and students across campus and look forward to collaborating as we plan for the new library space in Hartford. In addition to my new role here at the Hartford campus, I also oversee the Digital Scholarship and Data Curation Unit at the UConn Libraries Storrs campus, a group which includes colleagues with expertise in data visualization, user-centered design, digital archives, metadata development, research data, and digital scholarship expertise. Over the coming months we will host workshops here at the Trecker Library to provide our users with an opportunity to learn more about data visualization, the Connecticut Digital Archive, Scholars’ Collaborative, Research Data and other topics so stay tuned!

In addition to these roles, I also serve as the Director of the Connecticut State Data Center, a collaborative between the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management and the University of Connecticut Libraries, which provides the citizens of Connecticut with assistance, training, and custom datasets  with a focus on Connecticut. The Connecticut State Data Center is part of the U.S. Census Bureau’s national state data center network and provides Connecticut focused assistance and datasets.

I look forward to meeting and working with each of you over the coming months and years and I am delighted to lead the Harleigh B. Trecker Library! I also welcome our users to share their ideas on how we can work to improve library spaces and services so feel free to stop by anytime to share your ideas or you can send me an email.

Happy Spring Semester Everyone!

Michael R. Howser
