The variety of available employment attracted immigrants from all over the world who came, worked, stayed and contributed their piece to the state&#8217;s rich ethnic mosaic. The resulting mix of traditions, cultures and languages has been documented in several oral history projects beginning with the <a href=\"https:\/\/ctdigitalarchive.org\/islandora\/object\/20002%3A19720002\">WPA Federal Writers&#8217; Project<\/a> in the 1930s, continued\u00a0\u00a0in the mid 1970s by the <a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/11134\/20002:19790014\">Peoples of Connecticut project<\/a> at UConn and, more recently, the <a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/11134\/20002:20090014\">Waterbury Area Immigrant Oral History Collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Similar to other states, a significant portion of Connecticut&#8217;s population came from somewhere else.
