\"\"<\/a>At the Archives & Special Collections, we have been ramping up our interoperability.\u00a0 What does that mean exactly?\u00a0 Twinkling\u00a0screens, chatter of\u00a0audio recording and tactile interactions with materials on exhibition.\u00a0\u00a0Currently, we are featuring collection materials from 50 years ago in\u00a0the archives to help highlight the year\u00a01966.\u00a0 These selections contain personal correspondence and work\u00a0from famous artists and activists like Ed Sanders, Allen Ginsberg, Diane Di Prima and Abbie Hoffman.\u00a0 Popular culture and ephemera from\u00a0comic books\u00a0to Life magazine relating to the\u00a0politics of War in\u00a0Vietnam, LSD,\u00a0the rise of Black Power and the\u00a0battle against\u00a0Communism.<\/p>\n

Included in the exhibit are Alternative Press Collection materials documenting the War in Vietnam ranging from the scholarly to the ephemeral.\u00a0The Poras Collection of Vietnam War Memorabilia<\/a> contains\u00a0posters, death cards, publications and satirical\u00a0army culture objects demonstrating the antagonisms of war at home and abroad.\u00a0 From a personal collection of Navy\u00a0Corpsman Cal Robertson, his correspondence from Vietnam in 1966\u00a0while deployed over two\u00a0tours\u00a0as a medic\u00a0attached to a marine\u00a0platoon, detailing the daily grind and uncertainties of waiting in the jungle and relaying safety concerns to loved ones back home.\u00a0 The Alternative Press also includes a trove of anti-war\u00a0publications such as the Committee for\u00a0Nonviolent Action.<\/p>\n

\"CQo9zv4VEAAjShs.jpg<\/a>The physical exhibit in our reading room\u00a0is but one element of\u00a0our program to promote access to collections through outreach.\u00a0 Media displays within the Archives Reading Room featuring additional photographs and videos demonstrate the interactive qualities of physical objects outside of a static display.\u00a0\u00a0Currently, the newest arrival to the reading room is a large tablet-like touch table which has digital content loaded from\u00a0our Omeka exhibit on1966 which will\u00a0be unveiled in the coming month on the web.<\/p>\n
