{"id":630,"date":"2009-11-09T16:18:44","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T20:18:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/doddcenter.wordpress.com\/?p=630"},"modified":"2023-09-20T15:34:41","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T15:34:41","slug":"honoring-our-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/2009\/11\/09\/honoring-our-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Honoring our Veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_631\" style=\"width: 244px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-631\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-631\" src=\"http:\/\/doddcenter.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/armistice_day_bonfire.jpg?w=234\" alt=\"Armistice Day bonfire, Connecticut Agricultural College, 1919\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2009\/11\/armistice_day_bonfire.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2009\/11\/armistice_day_bonfire-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 234px) 100vw, 234px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-631\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Armistice Day bonfire, Connecticut Agricultural College, 1919<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This year marks the culmination of the University of Connecticut Alumni Association&#8217;s yearlong effort to\u00a0craft a fitting tribute to honor our alumni who have fallen while serving in the armed forces of our nation.\u00a0 In November 2008, the Ultimate Sacrifice Memorial was dedicated.\u00a0 Located on the Lawn to the east of the Wilbur Cross Building, the Memorial\u00a0is constructed of brick, limestone and marble, and features a patio and handcrafted &#8220;eternal flame.&#8221; The marble headstone is drawn from the same quarry used for Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial.
