Only a few days after their return finals begin.<\/p>\n<p>We tend to forget that it wasn&#8217;t always like this.\u00a0\u00a0 A quick look in the Archives is enough to demonstrate how much things have changed at\u00a0the University.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On October 7, 1881, 12 young men began their agricultural studies at the new, small school nestled in the\u00a0hills of northwestern Connecticut.\u00a0\u00a0 Their course of study was prescribed\u00a0and the daily schedule had little variety.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_639\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-639\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-639\" src=\"http:\/\/doddcenter.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/1881_report-2.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"1881_report.2\" width=\"300\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2009\/11\/1881_report-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2009\/11\/1881_report-2-300x113.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/archives\/files\/2009\/11\/1881_report-2-500x189.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-639\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Daily Schedule, Academic year 1881-1882<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0In comparison, this past August, 20,812 undergraduates (men and women) settled in\u00a0on the University&#8217;s 6 campuses across the state to begin\u00a0the Fall 2009 semester.\u00a0 Hundreds\u00a0of courses are available to\u00a0leading to one hundred possible majors.
