Goldbaum Photography Collection of Daily Campus Negatives,<br> <a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/11134\/20002:860598978\">New York Peace March, April 15, 1967 <\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-normal-font-size\">In the Spring\u00a0semester\u00a0of 2020, an exciting\u00a0use of\u00a0historical photographs by UConn <a href=\"https:\/\/dmd.uconn.edu\/\">Digital Media and Design<\/a> students\u00a0brought to life\u00a0the images of\u00a0student protest\u00a0in the 1960s and 1970s\u00a0held by the\u00a0University of Connecticut\u00a0Archives.\u00a0\u00a0In collaboration with\u00a0Assistant Professor Anna Lindemann and MFA graduate Instructor Jasmine\u00a0Rajavadee\u00a0of the\u00a0Digital Media and Design Department,\u00a0the\u00a0Motion Graphics\u00a01\u00a0class (DMD 2200)\u00a0spent a portion of their semester in the archives to understand the context of photographic collections and\u00a0practice their skills on digital collection items.  This exploration led to the creation of new uses for the recorded past.\u00a0 The class assignment\u00a0drew on digitized <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.lib.uconn.edu\/islandora\/object\/20002%3AStudentUnrest\">35mm negatives,\u00a0Kodachrome color slides, and black&amp;white\u00a0photographic\u00a0prints<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0demonstrate\u00a0a\u00a04D animation\u00a0process\u00a0of still images\u00a0to\u00a0bring static subjects to life.\u00a0 Collections utilized for this project\u00a0ranged from the <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.lib.uconn.edu\/islandora\/object\/20002%3A20150052\">Cal Robertson Collection<\/a> of anti-nuclear demonstrations in New London,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archives.lib.uconn.edu\/islandora\/object\/20002%3A201900750078\">Howard S.\u00a0Goldbaum\u2019s\u00a0Photography<\/a> for the Daily Campus\u00a0newspaper\u00a0documenting anti-Vietnam War demonstrations in\u00a0Storrs, New York,\u00a0and\u00a0Washington D.C., and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archives.lib.uconn.edu\/islandora\/object\/20002%3AWCLStudentProtest\">University of Connecticut Photography Collection<\/a>\u00a0images\u00a0of the 1974 Black Student sit-in at Wilbur Cross Library.\u00a0To view a selection of the Student Unrest Photography in 4D project, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1mKluyYCMk4\">follow this link to our Youtube page<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This project was a timely and innovative use\u00a0of\u00a0a subject matter that was re-energized through Storrs campus demonstrations\u00a0around\u00a0racism, global\u00a0climate\u00a0change\u00a0and\u00a0mental\u00a0health\u00a0advocacy\u00a0throughout the 2019-2020\u00a0academic year.\u00a0 In addition,\u00a0UConn Archives exhibitions\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2019\/09\/day-glo-napalm-exhibition-looks-back-uconn-activism\/#\">Day-Glo &amp; Napalm: UConn from 1967-1971<\/a><\/em>\u00a0on student life and activism of the\u00a0Vietnam War Era\u00a0and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2020\/02\/uconn-viewfinder-howard-goldbaums-campus-news-photos\/\">UConn Through the Viewfinder:\u00a0Connecticut Daily Campus Photographs\u00a0from the\u00a0Howard\u00a0Goldbaum\u00a0Collection<\/a><\/em> at the William Benton Museum of Art\u00a0reminded the community\u00a0of it\u2019s\u00a0involvement\u00a0during times of\u00a0national\u00a0change.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the second time that the UConn Archives has worked with Prof. Lindemann and the DMD department to utilize photographic collections for class projects, the first drew on child labor images from the <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.lib.uconn.edu\/islandora\/object\/20002%3A20110094\">U.
