Homer Babbidge Master Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/babbidgebuildingblog\/files\/2016\/06\/HBL_West.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-150\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/babbidgebuildingblog\/files\/2016\/06\/HBL_West.jpg\" alt=\"HBL_West\" width=\"421\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a>Since 1978, the Homer Babbidge Library has served as an intellectual, learning, cultural, creative and social hub for the UConn community. Our unique role on campus comes from both our physical location and our mission to overcome boundaries and serve all disciplines.\u00a0 As UConn continues to look towards its future, we have made a commitment to adapting the space within the brick exterior of the Babbidge Library into a center of innovation, knowledge and University growth and development to further the University\u2019s mission of excellence in research, education, service and engagement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Principles Around Space Changes <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposed changes to the University Libraries\u2019 flagship facility reflect the desire to continue to be the intellectual hub of campus, updating the facility to foster reaching, teaching and learning activities across disciplines. Design principles include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing a variety of areas and choices that support the different phases of the learning and research process across academic disciplines, from contemplative study to dynamic experiential teamwork<\/li>\n<li>Showcasing academic, intellectual, cultural or creative activities and accomplishments<\/li>\n<li>Seeking strategic partnerships and organizations with relevant services and relationship to the mission of the Library and be mutually supportive<\/li>\n<li>Creating a campus hub for serendipitous or informal interactions between faculty, students, and researchers<\/li>\n<li>Seeking to continually expand study space to address the growing student and faculty population<\/li>\n<li>Supporting both academic and social activities that bring the community together<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Changes have started this June so stay tuned to this blog as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/UConnLibraries\/\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/uconnlibraries\">Twitter<\/a> for updates.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Since 1978, the Homer Babbidge Library has served as an intellectual, learning, cultural, creative and social hub for the UConn community.
