Members include:\u00a0 Harry A. Frank, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Chemistry on bass; Lewis Gordon, Professor of Philosophy and African American Studies on drums; Harvey A. Swadlow, Professor of Psychology, vocals and harmonica; \u00a0Mark Overmyer-Vel\u00e1zquez, Associate Professor of History &amp; Director, Institute of Latina\/o, Caribbean and Latin American Studies on piano; and Cyrus Ernesto Zirakzadeh, Professor of Political Science on guitar.\u00a0 Refreshments will be served.\u00a0 The public is cordially invited to attend this free event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUtopia Lives: \u00a0Symbolic Aboriginal Art from Australia,\u201d is art based on important ancient stories (Jukurrpa) and symbols centered on \u2018the Dreamtime\u2019 \u2013 the period in which Indigenous people believe the world was created. \u00a0These large and bold works by four contemporary Indigenous artists are from the collection of David Glenn, a UConn Ph.D. candidate in Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>Sculptor John Magnan\u2019s installation, \u201cStrangers in Class: \u00a0Gazing Across the Economic Divide,\u201d features unique wooden sculptures which depict contemporary economic struggles.\u00a0 \u201cThese works touch on blue-collar economic struggle, the digital divide, abject poverty and other issues, and the refinement of the work makes it resonate far beyond finger wagging,\u201d says the <i>Standard Times<\/i> of New Bedford, MA.\u00a0 Magnan, who holds an M.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts, lives and works in the National Park Waterfront Historic District of New Bedford.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of the Frame: Alternative Arts of the 1980s Poets, Punk Rock and the Printed Book,\u201d draws upon materials from UConn\u2019s Archives &amp; Special Collections and highlights works including:\u00a0 the \u201cDial-a-Poem\u201d movement, in which callers could listen for free to a variety of poems on social issues, cyberpunk writers, punk rock music and memorabilia and recordings documenting punk rock music and offset printed artists\u2019 books of the period.
