{"id":547,"date":"2013-04-05T09:30:09","date_gmt":"2013-04-05T09:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/outsidetheneatline\/?p=547"},"modified":"2013-04-03T20:31:45","modified_gmt":"2013-04-03T20:31:45","slug":"web-and-mobile-application-development-at-the-census-bureau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.uconn.edu\/outsidetheneatline\/2013\/04\/05\/web-and-mobile-application-development-at-the-census-bureau\/","title":{"rendered":"Web and mobile application development at the Census Bureau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Census Bureau is keeping up to speed with not only different types of statistics and data, but how users and developers can access and visualize that data in more meaningful and streamlined ways.<\/p>\n<p>The Census Bureau was recently named a 2013 Honors Laureate by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/\">Computerworld<\/a><\/strong> for development of its open data API, an application programming interface implemented in July 2012 that allows developers to take data sets and reuse them to create online and mobile apps &#8211; for more information see: <strong><a title=\"http:\/\/www.census.gov\/developers\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.census.gov\/developers\/\">http:\/\/www.census.gov\/developers\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bureau was recognized by the magazine &#8220;for its visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.&#8221; The story will be featured in the June 3 edition of Computerworld.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the Bureau developed a new <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.census.gov\/mobile\/\">mobile app<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that allows users to &#8220;take the pulse of the U.S. Economy&#8221; straight from their phone! According to the Bureau:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The America\u2019s Economy app provides real-time updates for 16 key economic indicators released from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Bureau of Economic Analysis.
