Stamford is one of 72 communities around the country taking part in the BIG READ.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fergusonblog.org\/bigread\/?p=5\" title=\"Ferguson Calender Big Read Events\">View Stamford&#8217;s Calendar of Events<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The idea behind the BIG READ is to celebrate the importance of great literature in our nation&#8217;s history, place an emphasis on reading and literacy and bring communities together to celebrate the gift of books.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UConn Stamford will host a panel discussion to assess the lessons learned from the novel regarding race relations in the City of Stamford.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Panelists:<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Gary Storhoff<\/strong>, Associate Professor of English, University of Connecticut, Stamford<br \/>\n<strong>Valerie Shultz-Wilson<\/strong>, President, Urban League of Southwestern CT<br \/>\n<strong>Rodney Bass<\/strong>, Principal, Turn of River Middle School<br \/>\n<strong>Tommie Jackson<\/strong>, Pastor, Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church<br \/>\n<strong>Len Miller<\/strong>, Partner, O&#8217;Connor, Davies, Munns and Dobbins<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moderator:<\/strong>  <strong>Michael Ego<\/strong>, Associate Vice Provost, UConn Stamford<\/p>\n<p><em>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neabigread.org\/books\/mockingbird\/\" title=\"NEA Big Read\">BIG READ<\/a> is an initiative of the National Endowment of the Arts, in partnerships with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest.<\/em><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Throughout Fairfield County, there will be a variety of activities related to the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, as part of the BIG READ program during the week of April 23.
