New Library Database : Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements

The UConn Libraries now has online access to the Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements! Nearly 100 peer-reviewed, research-based entries on over-the-counter supplements.

The checkpoint for the many over-the-counter supplements carried in today’s nutritional products marketplace, this encyclopedia presents peer-reviewed, objective entries that rigorously review the most significant scientific research-funneling basic chemical, preclinical, and clinical data into a descriptive form universally useful to health care professionals, researchers, and educated, health-conscious consumers.

Topics:

Google Scholar: In this workshop we will look at some of the differences between Google Scholar and library databases. This workshop will also introduce the use of LexisNexis Academic, ABI/INfORM and Factiva for locating full-text newspaper and magazine articles. VPN, Virtual Private Network, accessing library databases from home will be discussed.

Steps in Preparing a Research Paper
Do you sometimes feel clueless as you begin your research? This workshop will provide a basic overview for beginning your research. Included will be information about using the library’s reference collection, locating books using the university’s Online Catalog, HOMER and choosing good databases to begin an article search and how to cite your paper. Babbidge Library Workshop on EndNote

In the Babbidge Library Electronic Classroom on Level 2, instructors are
conducting workshops to hone your skills on the following resource:

REFERENCE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE – ENDNOTE
Learn how to use EndNote to organize citations downloaded from more than 60
of the Libraries’ licensed databases – including PsycINFO, MLA, ABI Global,
Web of Science, ERIC, Dissertation Abstracts, and WorldCat – into a personal
reference library. EndNote used with Microsoft Word saves time by
automatically formatting footnotes and bibliographies of extended research
projects-dissertations, grant proposals, books and articles-in APA, MLA, or
more than 700 other bibliographic styles.
