HOMER, catalog working again today

Today thus far, our library Catalog HOMER is back up but you will experience some slowness in searches and logins. We are still working hard to bring HOMER back to its full capacity. Remember as an alternative try using the State-wide library catalog reQuest or Worldcat. You can run searches for an author/keyword/title/subject, to find out if the UCONN libraries has your item.

You are still able to make Interlibrary Loan and InterCampus requests by using the Libraries online loan request form on the DD-ILL page. Don’t forget to include a call number and the campus location of the title needed.

Uploading Word 2007 docs in HuskyCT

Attention Faculty & Students,

All Microsoft office 2007 programs save files in an xml format; making it difficult to share them through HuskyCT. Students uploading assignments should save then in the 1997-2003 format.

1. o7 XLM files can be saved in the 97-03 “compatibility format” by clicking on the Office button

2. Save as > 97 -2003 format

3.To make the change permanent for every time youi save a file; you can change the default. Click on “options.”

4. Save under the 1997-2003 compatibility format. Click OK

Printing Instructions for library computers

At the start of the Fall 2007 semester, our library upgraded nine new computer stations with Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access not Publisher). Microsoft Office 2007 has a very different look to it than it’s predecessor. Too many changes to list here but Microsoft has a training page to learn more about Office 2007.

Our most asked question since we’ve gotten Office 2007 is how to print. There is two simple methods to print from our library computer stations:

1. Click on the CTRL key + P

2. or MSlogoClick on the Microsoft Logo and select “Print” from the drop down menu

3. either choice will bring up the print dialogue box to select the library’s Cash or Card printer options.

Library’s BLC Virtual Catalog service is unavailable

The UConn Libraries access to the Boston Library Consortium (BLC) Virtual Catalog is currently not available today. Steps to restore service is underway.

UConn staff, students and faculty are encouraged to make their Loan request via WorldCat (http://rdl.lib.uconn.edu/databases/947)> for books outside of the UConn system. For books within the UConn Library system, please continue to use the Inter Campus Express (ICE) online form. Look for the “request ice” tab in the HOMER, library catalog. You will need your NetID to login.

What is the BLC?
The Virtual Catalog provides a single, searchable catalog of books owned by participating libraries of the Boston Library Consortium. Qualified patrons of these libraries may directly request material from the other participants. UConn students, faculty and staff (including retirees) may search and request material from 19 libraries.
