Free Access to e-Books

Free E-Books and Documents Coming in July

Two e-book websites will offer free access to a third of a million volumes next month.

By Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — Electronic book devotees may want to set aside some extra screen time this summer, as two nonprofits are preparing to provide free access to 300,000 texts online.

Project Gutenberg and World eBook Library plan to make ”a third of a million” e-books available free for a month at the first World eBook Fair. Downloads will be available at the fair’s Web site from July 4, the 35th anniversary of Project Gutenberg’s founding, through Aug. 4.

InfoTrac Database PDF Downloads

Students,

If you are using our SuperHomer stations in the library and conducting a search within the Infotrac OneFile database, you may encounter a problem with downloading .pdf documents from your search results list. You may get a “adobe plug-in is needed” message when you select the .pdf link.

To work around this problem:
1. click on the Document Title (as if your were going to read the html version or abstract)
2. click on the .pdf link from within the page
3. the .pdf should open up normally

If you are still experiencing problems with retreiving your document ask one of reference librarians for assistance.

Printing to Card_B&W from circulating Laptops

Attention students,

Some of the library’s circulating laptops are not printing to the CARD_B&W Print station at the reference desk. If you find that you are unable to print to the CARD_B&W Print station from our laptops, you can still choose CASH_B&W as your print output.

What you should do is just select Cash_B&W, retrieve your print job (at the circulation desk) and inform the staff at the desk. Don’t forget to have your HuskyCard/UConn ID with you! Our staff will be able to deduct the cost from your card.

Thank you,
Library Staff
