Free ESRI Presentation – Creating Map Books Using Data Driven Pages

ESRI offers a free online presentation that gives a great overview of the capabilities of using data driven pages to create map books in ArcMap.  The presentation is about 60 minutes long and includes software demonstrations.  At the end of the presentation one will find suggested resources to learn more about creating map books. A great tool to create an organized multi-page PDF document with maps, tables, charts and figures to present to your stakeholders. This presentation is a recorded web presentation so you do not have to schedule time to be available to view it.

Media Advisory — Census Bureau to Hold Webinar Prior to Releasing List of Jurisdictions Required to Offer Language Assistance to Voters

What:

The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a webinar to discuss the upcoming release of a list of jurisdictions that must provide language assistance to voters. Under Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act, jurisdictions must provide assistance to specific minority groups who are unable to speak or understand English adequately enough to participate in the electoral process. This is the first time American Community Survey estimates will be used to determine the list of jurisdictions.
The event will consist of an audio conference and online presentation. The webinar will explain background information on Section 203, how the list of jurisdictions is determined and provide information on the upcoming release. It will conclude with a question-and-answer session for reporters. We suggest participants log in and call in early.

5/26/2011 – New Data About Nation’s Age and Sex Composition and Hispanic Population

The U.S. Census Bureau will hold an audio and Web news conference to release the next two briefs from the 2010 Census. During the event, Census Bureau demographers will discuss the changes in the nation’s age and sex composition, including changes in the median age and sex ratios. The demographers will also discuss the growth and geographic distribution of Hispanic origin groups, such as Mexican, Puerto Rican or Cuban.

Mashup Madness: Using Google Tools to Create Maps on the Web: May 24 and July 12

This one-day training covers the basics of Google Maps and Google Earth. Topics covered include methods for creating customized maps using Google My Maps, Google Earth, KML and Google Fusion Tables. Participants will also learn methods for collaborative mapping and techniques for embedding interactive maps on a website. No prior GIS experience is necessary.

Pictures, Points and Places: An Introduction to GPS: June 9-10 and July 28-29

This two-day training covers the basics of GPS technology. Participants will learn how to use handheld GPS receivers in the field to collect geospatial data and georeferenced photographs. The training also covers methods for integrating GPS data and geolocated photographs into a GIS (MapWindow) and Google Earth. No prior GIS experience is necessary.

Geospatial Technologies at Work: An Introduction to GIS: June 22-24

A three-day intensive training covering introductory topics for desktop GIS. Teaching software is ArcGIS10. Topics covered include: data management strategies, connecting to geospatial data over the internet, working with geodatabases, understanding tabular data, symbolizing and classifying data, creating maps for printing and production, performing spatial data queries, and basic editing techniques. No prior GIS experience is necessary.
